UPDATE: Total raised from this event was $6,473. Thank you all!
Like the Cinderella story, six Mingus Manor dogs had the night of their life. Walking around meeting all the wonderful
guests that helped make this event a success, our four-legged friends were so happy - one (Boogie Woogie) did a little dance
for us.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Dinner and bid on the many auction items displayed. Your kind support keeps us moving
forward. Another thank you to Ruth Vichules and AJ for entertaining us throughout the evening with their beautiful voices
and guitars. Our appreciation also goes to the Mingus Manor volunteers for their hard work and continued support. Lynne...
you were a fabulous emcee/host. And thank you to the Millenium staff for providing a great meal and friendly service.
Pictured on the right is Amanda McCray - Miss Arizona Elite 2011-2012, sharing the spotlight with our lovely little Miss
Betsy. See some images from the dinner below. More photos will be added soon.
And to finish our story... after arriving home, our six furry companions found their way to their beds and were out like
a light. Apparently, they even slept in. Now guess who was the first to wake Karen for breakfast... the tiny little 17 year
old chihuahua... Martha:-)
Mingus Manor is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that provides care for Senior and Special Needs
pets.
Founded by Karen Scherer of Loving Hands Pet Care in Phoenix, AZ, the Sanctuary's mission is to provide
the care needed to those pets, who are deemed unadoptable by other rescues and animal agencies. However, no
animal is ever unadoptable! There is someone for everyone,as the saying goes, and if we can find those wonderful
human beings that share our love for these two groups and are willing to give them loving homes, we are all for that.
Come Join "Team Mingus Manor"!!!!!!
Join us for a fun day at Tempe Town Lake on Sunday, February 19th for the Petsmart Charity Walk. Sign
up for our team, get family, friends and co-workers to support your efforts with pledges to help all of our Senior and Special
needs residents. Our goal this year is to raise $5,000 +.
100% of pledges and registration fees come directly back to Mingus Manor. As you all know, all monies
from our fundraising efforts go towards the medical care and daily needs of the "special gang".
Please sign up and help us achieve our goal this year. We can't help them without YOUR help.
One by one, they pass my cage, Too old, too worn, too broken, no way. Way past his time, he can’t run
and play. They shake their heads slowly and go on their way. A little old man, arthritic and sore, It seems I am
not wanted anymore I once had a home, I once had a bed, A place that was warm, and where I was fed. Now my muzzle
is grey, and my eyes slowly fail. Who wants a dog so old and so frail? My family decided I didn’t belong, I
got in their way, my attitude was wrong. Whatever excuse they made in their head, Can’t justify how they left
me for dead. Now I sit in this cage, where day after day, Those younger dogs get adopted away. When I had almost
come to the end of my rope, You saw my face, and I finally had hope. You saw thru the grey, and the legs bent with age, And
felt I still had life beyond the cage You took me home, gave me food and a bed. And shared your own pillow with my poor
tired head. We snuggle and play, and you talk to me low, You love me so dearly, you want me to know. I may have lived
most of my life with another, But you outshine them with a love so much stronger. And I promise to return all the love
I can give, To You, my dear person, as long as I live. I may be with you for a week or for years, We will share many
smiles, you will no doubt shed tears. And when the time comes that God deems I must leave, I know you will cry and your
heart, it will grieve. And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new, My thoughts and my heart will still be with you. And
I will brag to all who will hear, Of the angel who made my last days so dear.
